Prince of Darkness

John Carpenter truly excels at creating movies that have a creepy feel to them, and this one is no exception. Despite a low budget and noted absence of big-name stars (save for the late Donald Pleasance) this movie still manages to generate an effective vibe of dread and terror. Story involves a team of college graduate students and research assistants who are called in by a fear-stricken priest to investigate a mysterious canister found secreted away in an old abandoned church. It isn't long before they discover that the canister; which is filled with a strange green liquid, actually contains no less than Satan himself- who is attempting to break free into our world. Though slow and dragging in some parts, the movie is still intensely watchable; and will have you on the edge of your seat once it really gets going. Also, look out for shock-rocker Alice Cooper in a ghastly cameo appearance.
