2½ stars out of 4
Released in 1986, this fourth installment of the Friday franchise was touted
as being the FINAL chapter, but the fans always knew better. In actuality,
the series would go on to spawn another 5 sequels before biting the dust in
1993. Anyway, this fourth entry didn't really offer anything new in terms of
plot or originality- just more of the same theme of kids having fun and
casual sex in Camp Crystal Lake; only to be hacked to pieces by the
relentless and unforgiving Jason Vorhees. Still, it remains entertaining;
especially during the climax where the heroine and her little brother both
have to square off against Jason in a heart-stopping showdown. Jason's
trademark hockey mask even comes off in this scene; allowing viewers a rare
glimpse of his hideously deformed face.
