3½ stars out of 4

The writer of SCREAM (Kevin Williamson) teams up with Robert Rodriguez (the director of cult favourites like DESPERADO and FROM DUSK TILL DAWN) to deliver a reasonably entertaining sci-fi thriller concerning a group of high school students who discover that their teachers are actually aliens from outer space. Though not boasting much great dialogue and only a few genuinely suspenseful scenarios, the movie still succeeds in being fun throughout. The special effects are pretty cool too, and manage to avoid having a cheap look to them. Also, Williamson and Rodriguez are obviously huge admirers of John Carpenter's work; because they shamelessly borrow from Carpenter's all-time classic 'THE THING' in quite a number of scenes. You want proof? Go rent THE THING and watch it back-to-back with this. Then you'll see what I'm talking about.
