How would you feel if your wife had to work naked? Would it bother you? It
does Yvan (Yvan Attal), whose wife sleeps around for a living -- well, sort of.
He is suffering the perils of being an actress's spouse. As a friend points
out, simulating sex in a movie is not quite the same thing as simulating death.
A kiss is a kiss, but a fake gun shot is just fake. An entertaining and
easy-going romantic comedy, MY WIFE IS AN ACTRESS (MA FEMME EST UNE ACTRICE) is
written and directed by Yvan Attal, the picture's male lead.
Playing opposite Attal is Charlotte Gainsbourg (JANE EYRE) who was instructed by
Attal to just play herself. Terence Stamp (THE LIMEY), as Jack, supplies the
other end of the story's love triangle. Jack is a likable but pompous actor who
also paints with what he calls "childlike spontaneity." With his wife off in
London doing nude scenes with Jack in their new movie, Yvan is back home in
Paris, worried as usual. You don't need to worry about the film, which is a
real charmer. It contains one particularly hilarious scene that you won't soon
forget.
MY WIFE IS AN ACTRESS runs 1:35. The film is in French with English subtitles
and in English. It is rated R for "language and nudity/sexuality" and would be
acceptable for older teenagers.
