Alpha 3 is a re-release of the PlayStation version of the same name, but with vastly improved
animation that screams quality. While the game is not a huge leap from previous titles in the
series, no fighting enthusiast will be disappointed.
The game gives players a host of new options and brings back the "ism" fighting styles made
popular in a few earlier titles.
The A-ism style from the Alpha games lets the player select the general combo system and
choose from three different degrees of super combos.
The X-ism style from Super Street Fighter II Turbo gives players one extremely powerful super
combo move at the expense of not allowing players to block attacks in the air.
The V-ism style is an enhanced version of the custom combo system found in Alpha 2, where the
player can inflict multiple-hit damage.
What is it with this "ism" stuff? These names are not helpful in identifying and remembering the
characteristics of fighting styles.
Alpha 3 includes a World Tour Mode, which is exactly what it sounds like: globetrotting. As
you defeat various international fighters, you will approach the "ism-plus" feature, where an A-
ism character can increase his or her skills and execute custom combos which are normally
available with V-isms only.
Alpha 3 involves 31 characters from traditional and Alpha Street Fighters, and controlling each
of them feels much less stiff than it did on the PlayStation. The faster load times (heck, what
load times?) are also a major plus.
