Well, this is a movie that can neither be hailed as a masterpiece, nor
easily dismissed. This movie will mean something different to everyone
that sees it. When I watched it, I admit that I did not like it. It
follows so many paths, so abstractly, with little to sum it all up
than,....frogs. The acting is fantastic. Not one emotion looked fake.
But, good acting can't save a poorly manufactured story line. If you like
films like American Beauty(4/4) or Fight Club(4/4) you may appreciate
this film on a certain level. But don't expect to enjoy, or even remotely
understand "Magnolia" on first viewing.
The only immutable fact is, this film is over three hours long! I could
almost randomly pick any seen that could easily been edited, or severely
cut down time wise. It just has too many scenes with no necessity or place
for it's own good. This fault, draws greatly away from caring about any
of the characters. I literally was wishing that some of them would just
DIE, SO THE MOVIE WOULD END!
But this is a movie that regardless of any review, should be seen be anyone and everyone.
Check it out sometime.
R- Excessive graphic language, OK for older teens
